Paying contractors now is like funding NDC’s 2020 campaign – Ken Agyapong

Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central the Honourable Kennedy Agyapong has commended Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta for being ‘smart’ in delaying payment for contractors.

The NPP lawmaker is of the opinion that most of the contractors whose money is locked up with government are aligned with the opposition NDC and are likely to use their money to fund NDC’s 2020 campaign war chest.

The lawmaker said also lamented that even under the NPP, some contracts are still being given to the NDC members to execute.

“The NDC has made money and we are also giving them contract. They made money. When they steal it is paid to them outside and they dont even bring it here. It is good we are not paying some of the contractors because the money will go to NDC and they will come and use the money to fight us. It is something I will commend Ofori Atta on”, Kennedy Agyapong said in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Road contractors who are owed over GHC500,000 by the government are fuming over what they say is government’s refusal to pay them despite claims by President Akufo-Addo that they are being paid.

According to the contractors, the pressure on them has heightened after President Akufo-Addo claimed he has paid all contractors during his tour in the Greater Accra region.

“The situation is unbearable now, nobody believes us again. Because the president is claiming to have paid all contractors, everyone we owe is coming for their monies. But the President knows very well that he hasn’t paid all of us so why is he doing that to us,” one of the unpaid contractors Kwadwo Asomaning told our sister media outlet Starrfm.com

The President told wives of contractors that he has paid their husbands and, so, this year’s Christmas season would be an enjoyable one.
