SPAR expands brand into Ghana’s market

SPAR has announced it has expanded its global presence into a new market following the launch in Ghana’s market.

SPAR Ghana to be operated by EcoDi

SPAR said the brand had been licensed to EcoDi (Economic Distribution Company Ghana) in Ghana. EcoDi will use its existing infrastructure to support the supply chain to existing stores and to small-scale producers. The company has committed to converting 17 existing supermarkets in and around the capital city Accra to the SPAR brand.

The companies said future growth and development opportunities will come through offering local independent retailers SPAR’s global expertise to help them generate fast-tracked development in the country.

Partnership combines international and local expertise

SPAR will provide EcoDi with access to its global range of SPAR branded products, to help the latter enhance its retail offering. EcoDi will gain access to SPAR’s locally, regionally, and internationally sourced products. Meanwhile, EcoDi will add to this by offering locally sourced products, which together with SPAR’s global expertise will benefit the local economy by bringing new goods to shoppers.

Commenting on the expansion, SPAR International’s chief executive, Tobias Wasmuht, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with EcoDi to launch the SPAR Brand in Ghana… I am confident that SPAR will be well received in this vibrant and dynamic country with a young demographic and growing population. There is also great potential in working with local Ghanaian food producers to source for the SPAR International network as well as our future store network in Ghana and we shall embrace these opportunities together.
