Mali crisis how Ghana’s President failed.

News gathered suggests that, France requested through the Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States, His Excellency Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, to ask President Akuffo Addo, Alassane Ouattara and Macky Sall specifically go and mediate in the Malian political crisis.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the federal republic of Nigeria was part of the delegation, but President Akuffo Addo was to lead the delegation as France wanted.

Sources say President Akuffo Addo singlehandedly met the ousted president, H. E. Boubacar Keita, and promised him of Ghana’s unflinching support with his intentions to remain in power.

Akuffo Addo later joined his colleagues and had interactions with the Imam of Mali and Co-ordinator of the Opposition, Mahmoud Dicko, and Civil Society groups, with a view to resolving the impasse.

President Akuffo Addo has not considered West Africa’s fragile democracy as legitimate. Unfortunately, three of the delegations who went to Mali are noted as power hungry leaders who can go at length to remain in power even if their people prefer change.

Alassane Ouattara and Muhammadu Buhari are leaders who have shown penchant to changing their national constitutions for personal gains. Ivory Coast is on the tipping point with the decision of Ouattara to contest elections again last week.

Mali’s case is a test scenario of West Africa’s desire to maintain multi party democracy with respect for rule of laws. But, is currently under threat!

Ghanaians were informed on 22nd July of Akuffo Addo’s trip to Mali but no communique was issued after the leader of the delegations to Mali returned home.

Unlike, President Atta Mills and John Mahama who showed leadership in the Ivorian and Gambia cases, Ghanaians have been disappointed by the lack of diplomatic skills of their current leader who is also facing elections in the next four months.

President Akuffo Addo’s presence was only a mere facade to facilitate the illegal plan to destabilise Mali for his paymasters in Europe.

Unlike Ghana’s former presidents Rawlings, Kuffour, Atta Mills and Mahama who worked at maintaining peace in West Africa, president Akuffo Addo’s notoriety for violence and despotic regimes continue to be seen in the sub region.

In Ghana, the main opposition in conjunction with civil society organisations have criticised the Akuffo Addo administration of gargantuan corruption and frauds. The president has shown no signs of allowing justice system to work particularly with respect to his appointees.

Similarly, in anticipation of loosing the December poll, Akuffo Addo has been accused of packing the Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals with members of his party just like what the ousted leader of Mali did.

The recent voter registration exercise are all elements within Akuffo Addo’s strategy to steal the general elections come December 7th 2020.

The Ghanaian media continues to witness harassments and intimidations by members of Akuffo Addo’s government who feel untouchable.

Is West Africa’s dream of maintaining democracy under attack by her current leadership?
