A section of Journalists operating in the Western Region have issued their resolve to boycott all media coverage organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and against a Minister of State without portfolio, Catherine Afeku, who is also the Member of Parliament in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency.

They journalists protest in relation to what they opined as the unjustified defense of the attack meted out by the minister’s personal bodyguard on Metro TV’s Cameraman Alhaji Mustapha Gilbert Ashaley

The group in a press conference on Sunday demanded an unqualified apology from the minister  of state at the office of the senior minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo,  for spewing ‘lies’ about the abuse on their colleague Alhaji Mustapha Gilbert Ashaley.

Speaking to the press, the group leader, Charles Egyir, stated that Journalists in the Western Region will resist any attempt by Catherine Afeku to use her office to suppress media freedom.

He said photo Journalists would stand firmly together with their colleague until the right thing is done and have thus called for a thorough investigation by the Police into the matter without favour or inducement from the politician.

“We would also like to throw our weight behind the Ghana Journalists Association (Western-GJA) for the call made for the immediate arrest of the bodyguard of the Member of Parliament for Evalue-Jomoro Gwira Constituency and Minister State at the Presidency for assaulting the Cameraman and deleting his video footages from his camera.”

The leader also warned that any attempt on the part of the Police to water down the case, and allow the bodyguard to go unpunished would not only incur their displeasure, but could attract an absolute boycott of all Police programs.
