UK:Mum injured in crash with Prince Philip, 97, wants him ‘prosecuted or give up licence’

A mum who broke her wrist in a car crash with Prince Philip has said she wants the royal to be ‘prosecuted or give up his licence’.

Emma Fairweather, 46, added she had not yet received an apology from the duke, even though it would ‘mean the world’ to her.

Ms Fairweather was travelling with her friend in the Kia that was in collision with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Land Rover on Thursday.

She told the Sunday Mirror she had heard nothing from Buckingham Palace, despite officials saying that contact had been made and ‘well wishes exchanged.’

Emma said: ‘I’m lucky to be alive and he hasn’t even said sorry.

‘It has been such a traumatic and painful time and I would have expected more of the Royal Family.

The mum-of-two said she was unhappy with how the incident has been dealt with by police and Buckingham Palace.

Her words came as the duke was spotted back behind the wheel of a new car, driving without his seatbelt.

She added: ‘I think he should be treated the same as anyone else. How could you say no to prosecuting him if he’s broken the law?’

Emma said her friend suffered cuts to her knee. A nine-month-old baby boy was unhurt in the accident.

‘I still haven’t had any contact from the Royal household’, she continued.

‘Maybe he should prioritise that over test driving his new car.’

‘It would mean the world to me if Prince Philip said sorry but I have no idea if he’s sorry at all.’

Norfolk police are still investigating the crash on Thursday and said ‘appropriate action will be taken’.

Drivers who are found guilty of careless driving can face imprisonment or have their licence revoked.

The police confirmed they ‘had words’ with Philip after he was pictured driving without a seatbelt less than 48 hours after the smash.

A Norfolk Constabulary spokeswoman said the force was aware of the photographs and that ‘suitable words of advice have been given to the driver.’

Images published on Saturday showed Philip, wearing dark glasses and no seatbelt, back behind the wheel near the Queen’s Sandringham estate.

Buckingham Palace did not immediately comment on the images.

The duke passed a police eyesight test on Saturday, a source confirmed.

He reportedly said ‘I’m such a fool’ while being pulled from his wrecked Land Rover Freelander on Thursday after it ‘somersaulted across the road’ on the A149 in Babingley, Norfolk.

Nick Freeman, the lawyer dubbed Mr Loophole, said the duke could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention if he was deemed to have made a mistake.

But he added: ‘If the sun was so low and right in your eyes, sometimes it’s impossible to see, and that may well have been the case and that would afford him a defence.’

Despite his age and having had a hip replacement operation last year, Philip appears to have no lasting problems following the crash.

A source said: ‘The duke’s routine in the coming days will continue as normal.’

Philip was examined at hospital on doctor’s advice, but a check-up found no injuries of concern.

Retired NHS worker Victoria Warne told The Sun she spoke to the duke at the scene of the crash as she looked after the injured occupants of the Kia.

The 72-year-old, from Norfolk, said: ‘The passenger from the other car told me, “I always wanted to meet a royal – but not this way”.’

She said the duke asked after the welfare of the Kia occupants, adding: ‘He looked so worried and told me, “I’m such a fool”.’

Her 75-year-old husband Roy helped the stricken duke out of his car, and he told The Sun Philip was overheard telling police he had been ‘dazzled by the sun’.
