Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a Former National Security Advisor, and a retired soldier has asked that Ghanaians put the past behind with regards to the killing of some three High Court Judges.
According to him, although it is important to dig into the past, trying to identify the culprits of the gruesome murder, it will be difficult to do so because most of the witnesses of that incident are no more.
The three, Mr Justice Fred Poku Sarkodee, Mrs Justice Cecilia Koranteng- Addow and Mr Justice Kwadwo Agyei- Agyepong were abducted and murdered in a gruesome manner on June 30, 1982.
Several accusing fingers have been pointed at in an attempt to fish out persons behind the June 30 incident but to no avail.
Speaking on Anopa Kasapa to sit-in host Akwasi Nsiah, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah said “the thing is that, in some of this cases you will never know the truth. Most of these people who know about the truth are dead, so where are you going to get these pieces and put them together. So we should learn to forget about it and move on”.
He added: “What happened is sinful but the truth will never come out. Let just draw lessons and look into the future. This to me is crucial”.
He however dismissed wide held opinion that former President Rawlings could be behind the killing of the judges.
“I have done intelligence work all my life, I’ve been with the KG, CIA and British intelligence and I said based on what I know, he wasn’t privy to whatever happened, he didn’t know about it, from what I know at that time and I still stand by it” he said.
Meanwhile he suspect persons within the PNDC government were behind the killing of the judges, causing his resignation from the PNDC government.
“I resigned from the PNDC on many issues, including the killing of the judges, there were indications that people in the government were actually involved…..I was watching things, I was fighting with my conscience, do you stay with the government do you go, what do you do? I went actually because that is what actually pushed me, killing of the judges” he said.
