Modern Ghana journalists assault: BNI has changed the narrative now – Samson Lardy

Samson Lardy Anyenini, one of the Lawyers for the journalists from Modern Ghana who were arrested and allegedly manhandled by the officials of the National Security Council Secretariat, has said National Security officials have changed the reason for their arrest to something unrelated.

According to him each of the journalists responded yes to his query about being brutalized by the National Security officials maintaining that the deputy editor Emmanuel Ajarfor received a large portion of the attacks.

The journalists according to media reports were arrested for engaging in cybercrime but it appears the journalists were not engaging in anything related to cybercrime but rather had access to an email which belongs to an Accra based Peace FM, where they generate news content for the online portal.

But speaking at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Lawyer Anyenini indicated that the journalists were arrested based on a publication on their online portal which touched on the National Security Minister, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah.

“They had called them and asked them to take the story down; they took the story down and they followed up and picked them up,” he said.

Lawyer Anyenini explained that picking the journalists up from their office cannot in any way be described as an arrest as defined by law but rather it is either an unlawful arrest or an abduction.
