NDC bars vigilante groups from Congress

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has barred all vigilante groups from providing security at its Annual Delegate’s Congress scheduled for Saturday, 17 November at the Fantasy Dome of the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

The 9th National Annual Congress of the NDC will see 65 aspirants consisting of 59 males and six females contesting for various national executive positions of the party.

But with issues of security becoming a major concern at such events, the NDC says it has constituted a Security sub-Committee to handle all issues of security, as parallel security arrangements will not be tolerated.

Speaking to Class News, Mr Alex Segbefia, Chairman of the party’s Congress Planning Committee, said: “The Security sub-Committee is taking account of all security for the congress and, so, we are not entertaining within the Security sub-Committee, any groupings.

“Everything is under one heading; that is, the Security sub-Committee with very senior stalwart people who have dealt with security for years in control of what is happening.

“We have contacted the regional command, they are fully aware and it’s safe to say that there will be security presence of a level that will meet the number of people that are coming and everything will be under control.”
