MP appeals for completion of roads in North Dayi

Ms Joycelyn Tetteh, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi in the Volta Region, has appealed for the completion of roads in the area, which had been abandoned due to non-payment of contract fees.

Ms Tetteh made the appeal when she interacted with students from Vakpo Senior High School who were on a visit to Parliament to learn about the functions of the Legislature.

The Vakpo Senior High School is among the schools in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region.

Earlier, Ms Tetteh had asked questions on the floor of the House about the construction of four road projects; Tsrukpe-Botoku, Sabadu–Awatey, Vakpo–Wusuta and Botoku–Bradatornu.

Mr Samuel Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, answering the question, stated that the 6.1km Tsrukpe–Botoku road, which forms part of the 19.6km Vakpo–Tsrukpe–Botoku feeder road in the North Dayi District, is five per cent complete.

He said the contractor had vacated the site and the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) is in the process of taking the necessary contractual procedures to terminate the contract and repackage for award.

Mr Amoako-Atta explained that there is no major upgrading programme on the Sabadu–Awatey (3km), Vakpo– Wusuta (4.2km) and Botoku–Bradatornu(3.5) roads.

He, however, gave the assurance that the engineering design studies would be conducted on the road during the first quarter of 2019 to determine the appropriate upgrading or improvement intervention under the DFR periodic maintenance programme.

He said the execution of the work would commence when funds become available.
