Ibrahim Mahama sues Wontumi and Dailymailgh over defamation

Business mogul and founder of Engineers and Planners Ltd, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has sued the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi and Kenneth Mensah, the editor of Dailyguidegh for defamation.

Mr Ibrahim Mahama, is seeking GH₵5 million in damages after Chairman Wontumi claimed that he made his wealth from unlawful means.

Over the past weeks, a video which went viral on social media, was seen by many in which the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that, Mr Mahama had bought a car and house for one, Hajia4Real.

In the writ, Mr Mahama quotes Chairman Wontumi’s comments  from a television broadcast on Wontumi TV:

“He has bought a car, it is said he has bought a car for Hajia for Real. Then he has bought a house and given it to her in addition, then he has snatched Kenpong’s girl. Because the money that [he has], it was when we just came into power, that his brother went and stole money for him. Do you understand?”

Mr Mahama says he understood the comments to mean he is “in possession of stolen wealth or money… tainted with stealing.”

Ibrahim Mahama is also suing same defamation against Kenneth Mensah, the editor of dailymailgh, an online news website for publishing the comments pronounced by the embattled Regional Chairman on his website.

Hajia4Real, on previous occasion through her solicitors, wrote to Chairman Wontumi to retract and apologies for spewing falsehoods and tainting her reputation.
