Police in Tema gun down two armed robbers

The Police in Tema on Thursday, April 23, 2020 shot and killed two suspected armed robbers who attempted to bolt with a large cash they had robbed from two businessmen whose vehicle they had trailed.

The incident happened at the TDC traffic lights in Tema Community One during which the robbers engaged in a shootout with the police, resulting in the instant death of one of the robbers.

The second robber died later as he attempted to get away with part of the booty.

Information gathered by Graphic Online indicated that two businessmen, a Ghanaian and a Lebanese who sell frozen fish at the Tema Fishing Harbour who had made a withdrawal of over GH¢100,000.00 from the Community One branch of Zenith Bank near the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) were reportedly trailed by the two gunmen on a motorbike.

The robbers immobilised the vehicle in which the businessmen were travelling by deflating the tyres with gunshots before seizing the money.

The Tema Regional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Paul Kissi Frimpong who confirmed the incident said following an alarm that was raised, the police patrol teams moved to the scene.

He said a shootout ensued leading to the death of the two suspected robbers.

He said as a result of the incident, the money scattered on the ground causing a scramble after which only GH¢2,500 was retrieved.

Mr. Frimpong said the bodies of the two suspects have been deposited at the police hospital mortuary.

The police have suspicions that the pair of robbers were responsible for a similar robbery incident recently, but ACP Kissi Frimpong said investigation is underway.
