Woyome cannot vomit alone – CPP

The Convention People’s Party CPP, has welcomed state efforts at retrieving the Gh¢51 million paid to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome during the presidency of the late President JEA Mills.

The CPP particularly applauds President Akufo-Addo for living up to the promise of retrieving what the party describes as a “gargantuan loot from a heinous conspiracy visited on the State by persons who had taken the oath to protect Ghana.”

The party in a statement issued by its Ag General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh, also congratulates the Supreme Court “for the bold decisions they have been consistent with since this matter came up some eight years ago”, as well as “the spirited display of commitment on the part of the Attorney General’s outfit particularly the sterling capacity demonstrated by deputy A-G Godfred Yeboah Dame in this crusade.”

The CPP however said “the retrieval of the money would be meaningless if the officers of State who deliberately, conscientiously and dutifully participated in the State loot are not brought to justice.”

The party said it was through the “willful negligence, willful participation or a combination of the two” by these state officers that made this unarmed broad-day robbery of the powerful State of Ghana possible and urged the State to go after them or risk serving no lesson to individuals entrusted with the power of the State who tend to abuse it.

“Ghana’s founding and redeeming Party wishes to reiterate that no matter how long a crime against the State lingers or get toyed with, the judgement hour shall come. This is a lesson for all persons holding public office to learn from and act right.

“We must join forces to fight the things that keep us from the lofty dreams of old. We must be united in the resolve to rid this great nation of the canker of corruption in thought and deed.”
