President Akuffo Addo’s ECOWAS election could only last for 3 months as he faces deselection

The emergence of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is no endorsement of his political and leadership skills, the ECOWAS have said.

Ghana’s president was elected at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summit, which is being held in Niamey, capital of Niger and who takes over from the Nigerien President, Muhamadou Issoufour.

President Akuffo Addo and other Heads of States are in Niamey to discuss the COVID-19 and the recent Malian political unrest situation in West Africa.

As Ghanaians go to the polls on December 7th, 2020 and with the wind of change favouring the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, to form the next government led by former president John Dramani Mahama, it is clear that post January 7th 2021, the chairmanship of ECOWAS would be headed by John Dramani Mahama.
