Just in: Government broke, unable to pay university staff salaries for Sept.

The government of Ghana has not been able to pay the salaries of Ghana’s Universities staff for September, Ghanamatters.com can confirm.

According to reliable sources within the university campuses, Government has been struggling to pay workers salaries since July 2020.

An internal memo in the possession of Ghanamatters.com, suggests that the salaries of one such elite university in Ghana, has been deferred until later date.

The memo signed by the finance officer of the University of Mines and Technology, Mr Jonathan Sakoe, says the salaries had been delayed as a result of non payment from the Controller and Accountant General Department.

This situation posses a serious challenge to the new and older universities who do not have access to any sources of funding, including internally generated funds.

It is unclear when the university workers will be paid?
