GHANA MIDFIELDER SARFO SENTENCED TO 32 MONTHS IN PRISON

The Black Stars midfielder was found guilty of having sex with underage girls in the Scandinavian country.

Ghana midfielder Kingsley Sarfo has been sentenced to 32 months in prison after he was found guilty of rape in Sweden.

The 23-year-old, moved to Europe from Golden Boot Academy in 2013, kick starting his professional career at Swedish side FC Rosengard.

He later played for BW 90 and Sirius before joining giants Malmo FF last season. However, his stay at Stadion Malmo was marred by charges of rape, driving under the influence of alcohol and without license.

After almost seven months of legal tussle, Malmo District Court established that Sarfo was guilty on two counts.

According to the judge, he had prior knowledge that the girls he slept with in 2016 were underage at the time of the acts, and forcibly engaged in sex with one other.

Sarfo’s lawyer says he will appeal the decision.

The player would be deported to Ghana after serving his jail term and banned from travelling to Sweden for the next ten years.

Malmo FF have issued a statement confirming the termination of his contract and a request to Sirius to refund the transfer fee used to purchase the midfielder ‘since they were aware of the charges’ but went on to sell him.

Sarfo, who made his Ghana debut against Uganda in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers last year, becomes the second Ghanaian player to be jailed in Sweden after former Heart of Lions midfielder Kwame ‘Conte’ Bonsu, who was sentenced to two years in prison in 2017 for misconduct and rape against his Swedish wife.
