Bawumia Commissions 100-bed Infectious Disease Centre

The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned Ghana’s first-ever 100-bed Infectious Disease Centre built to complement the National COVID-19 Treatment Centre at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, on friday, 24/07/2020.

With Government’s commitment to build at least 3 infectious disease centers as well as a Ghana Centre for Disease Control, the health facility was birthed by the Ghana Private Sector Fund with contributions from both private and public sector organisations. The 100 bed facility was constructed in just under 100 days!
The Veep commended the Ghanaian ingenuity, patriotism and dedication to humanity by a team of men and women, 536 strong, working 24 hours to make the impossible a reality.
He thanked staff at the Ministry of Health, 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Built Environment Professionals and the Ghana COVID-19 Private sector fund as well as the donors for making this possible.
Three more of these facilities are scheduled to be constructed in Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi.
