AWW Violence: Emile Short Commission presents report to Prez Akufo-Addo

The Justice Emile Short Commission which was set up to probe the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election on January 31 has on Thursday presented its findings to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the at the Jubilee House.

Presenting the report, Justice Emile Short thanked the government for giving his commission to undertake such exercise for the people of Ghana. He was hopeful the government will accept the recommendations and take the necessary steps to stamp out political violence in Ghana’s multi party democracy.

The president upon receiving the report said, “The findings and the recommendations of the report will be given the greatest possible attention by me and my government.”

He said, it was regrettable that political violence was taking a centre stage in Ghana’s democracy.

President added, government has the responsibility to ensure the maintenance of law and order in Ghana.

The Justice Emile Short Commission was tasked with unravelling the circumstances surrounding the AWW by-election violence.

The Commission was expected to among others, identify persons responsible for the violence and recommend sanctions where appropriate.

The commission invited several persons across the political divide  and the media in Ghana.
